David T. Parkes - Simplicity of appearance and behaviour masked a complex brain which was filled with Chemistry, much of which was known only to him.

A resourceful, innovative and self-motivated Technical & marketing Consultant with a proven reputation as a world leading authority on reactive dyestuffs. 

Results orientated and able to devise innovative new product development, production and marketing strategies that win new business, cut costs and propel a company to achieve ever greater sales, market share and profit margins. Proven change management, leadership and trouble-shooting skills, including leading, motivating and developing teams to surpass exceptionally challenging and demanding commercial objectives. Entrepreneurial and thrives on new challenges.

He made textile more colorful, and was very passionate about it. When a leading textile personality in India asked him why is he still continuing to work instead of retire he answered, "PASSION MAN PASSION" This sums up what he and textile dyes were all about.

Ironically or as a coincidence his life departed right in a mill in India when he was looking at the results of  his trials.

Major Achievements

• Successfully turned round ICI Colours Italian operation (the largest single market for reactive dyes at that time) by formulating an innovative new business model that focused the sales strategy on premium rather than commodity products (ICI faced stiff price competition from non-traditional suppliers).
  
• Retrained and coached the young sales force and dramatically increased sales, market share and margins. Masterminded an Indonesian dyestuff manufacturer’s break into the crucial European dyestuff marketplace by winning a vital $750,000 contract with a major factory in Turkey (this was the first Indonesian dyestuff company to break into Europe).
  
• Devised and conducted ‘customer improvement audits’ to win back business for ICI Colours following sustained price cuts by non-traditional suppliers.
  
• Turned round numerous customers’ commercial and technical operations – saved £450,000 at a factory in Scotland by rationalising their production processes and customer base.
  
• Transformed Chromatech from being just a UK textile auxiliaries supplier into a leading exporter of specialist chemicals by developing a unique preparation and dyeing system (‘Sure Tone’) with associated speciality chemicals, which had a very healthy profit margin and were fairly immune to competition due to their uniquenes.
• Successfully supervised two graduate students to MSC level at Manchester University.
• Much sought after speaker at International Symposia and Conferences including USA, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Italy, India, Morocco and Turkey
